Kindergarten has had fun learning about shadows this week!

It’s never too late celebrate being a Cub Run Cub!

Here is the February Calendar!

Have you heard about Global School Play Day? CRES will be participating Wednesday, February 7! The plan is for students to PLAY ALL DAY - with the theme of "Restoring Unstructured Play To A Generation Of Kids."
Students are welcome to bring toys to school on this day! The only restriction is that these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. In other words - no devices! Students can bring board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, art supplies, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.) and playground toys. Play will be happening indoors and outdoors throughout the day, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately.
The value of play on children's social and emotional well-being is unparalleled, and children's free play has declined in our society over the past generations. Cub Run is excited to participate in the fun this year and help bring unstructured play back to our kids! https://globalschoolplayday.com/

Congratulations to Dana Roderick, CRES Librarian, for being named RCPS Teacher of the Year! We were able to surprise her with a school-wide assembly! Ms. Roderick will go on to represent RCPS and be considered for the Regional Teacher of the Year Award! Thank you, Ms. Roderick for all you do for our school!

Mrs. Vachter’s class partnered with Mrs. Beahm's MMS FCCLA 8th graders to make Adobe houses to pair with their First Americans unit.

What a sweet collaboration! Montevideo Middle School

Fifth graders enjoyed some time in the snow on Monday! Our big kids love snow too!

Here are the February menus!

Please join us for a Cub Connections-Parent Information Meeting on Thursday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. At our February meeting, we will discuss the topics of school attendance, our parent volunteer program, PAW Patrol, and we will also talk a little about keeping schools safe, too. We will send the link to join the meeting on the day of the meeting. We hope you can join us online!

Save the date! February 12 is Parent-Teacher Conference Day from 12:00-7:00 p.m. All classroom teachers will be sending out sign up forms tomorrow, Monday! This is a great time to learn more about your child's progress during this school year!

Movie night is rescheduled to next week!

This was the perfect experiment before our little “snow break!” Mrs. Simmons’ first graders performed a “Blubber Glove” experiment on Friday. They learned about blubber, how it works, and why it is necessary for Arctic animals to have. This extra layer of fat helps them live, hunt and swim in the cold water temperatures of the Arctic!

CRES SCA Spirit Day January 22-26! Show your school spirit!

CRES Outreach Project for January!

Mrs. Wilt’s fifth graders held a virtual author visit with Ellen Potter. Mrs. Potter taught students how to gather ideas for writing, how to develop strong characters in their stories, and the importance of revisions. These students were so inspired they brought their writing journals to work on their stories at lunch!

Hikari represented Cub Run well last night in the county spelling bee! Hakari placed in the top 9! Way to go, Hakari! We are proud of you!

CRES Outreach Project for January!

Don't forget about the JMU Duke Dog Reading Program!

We hope all of our Cub families have a Happy New Year!
